Many homeowners want to further treat the water that comes into their homes including water softening, filtration, and ultraviolet treatment. Water softeners remove minerals like calcium and magnesium. Removing these minerals will reduce scale buildup on pipes, toilets, and water heater elements. Water softeners can be filled with either sodium salt or potassium salt.
Whole house water filtration systems include reverse osmosis and iron filtration. In reverse osmosis, the water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane so it is filtered. With iron filtration, the iron is oxidized and filtered out of the water so the iron doesn’t stain laundry and fixtures.
Ultraviolet water treatment will disinfect and sterilize the water by killing germs, bacteria, mold, algae, yeast, and cysts. As the water passes through the flow chamber, it is exposed to a UV light that kills these harmful organisms, making your water safer to use.
